The Road to Skara Brae

Dortmunder
Gold Rush Chronicle

The death of ten thousand buffalo is answered in the only way the coterie knows how, and the California Railroad brings together a dream, and a nightmare, as the webs begin to form over the Old West.

The German settlement in Sacramento has had a series of problems, more so than the other miners in the city. The investigation of the northern Yuba Mountain mines, where you had wanted to extend your reach, may reveal more information. Three thousand Chinese migrants are killed, bodies never recovered, and the pale horse of Death begins his ride.

The people of Madras are less interested in the Oregon Territory. In fact, they don’t see themselves being supported by their territorial representatives, or the Free State of California. Instead, they see themselves the subject of recent Indian attacks, and starvation as thousands continue to flood the Oregon Trail searching for gold.

The coterie prepares to move into the future with the rail and machines of steam and electricity, as the nation heads toward Civil War.

Flight to Avoid Prosecution

The Coterie leaves Skara Brae behind, and finds safe refuge far from Camarilla and Sabbat alike. The rebel Garou find themselves hopelessly contaminated, and the Wyrm slowly begins to take its hold, and the Coterie tries to fulfill a promise, and bring a friend home.

But their friend Poole left the greatest part of himself behind in Skara Brae, and what returns to his tribe has descended into a darkness that will destroy his entire Caern.

Because We Can
To Grapple with Hate, Part II

There are things worse than the Wyrm. There are the old hatreds that gave the West its history, and its finality. A dangerous effort was already underway by Governor Pico to buy California as a free state, away from Mexico and the US, by mining illegally in both Mexico and the US, while stamping their gold with mints belonging to Alta California.

Manuel Romasanta, Military Road, and Fort Leavenworth. Cump’s Men, and the Buffalo Soldiers. The Oregon Trail spanned over 2,170 miles through territories that would later become Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. Gold notes for the Free State of California, signed by the governor of Alta California, and there begins to be a shape to this new change in Western government. The presence of English Jesuits protecting a Spanish gold shipment in Wyoming, however, raises more questions than it answers.

Benicia was a 200-man garrison founded by the Spanish in 1849, and retaken by the US in 1850. The barracks were later expanded while Benicia City served as the state capital, and then forgotten after the wars.

The ordinance and arsenal were not constructed by the US Cavalry until 1851 when Brevet Captain Charles Stone ordered the shipment of additional arms and equipment to wage an extended campaign that never truly began because California became the 31st State, but that information wasn’t delivered in timely dispatch.

The Thing Which Should Not Be

Cloudfall Caern in western Iowa is the home of the last pure tribe of Wendigo still active in the Midwest. They have been dancing now for several months, along with the Sioux who are the last native tribe to hold territory in Iowa, and oppose white settlers.

As the situation grows more desperate, the native people have started to ask for the elements themselves to rise up against the white devils, and someone seems to have answered their pleas. But are their benefactors interested in their welfare at all?

The Maelstrom holds a secret that will change the coterie forever, and the Master of Puppets is always pulling the string.

“You made one mistake, madame,” Sascha said, quietly wiping his blade. “You forced me to see my Final Nights. I don’t know how to say this, but…. you weren’t there.” He turned to his ghoul. “Set our carriages; we leave at once.”

Algonquian Pain

Algonquian peoples along the Atlantic Coast and Great Lakes Region of both the United States and Canada tell the stories of a terrible beast, half man, and half wolf, capable of rending flesh and sowing terrible destruction.

While the Algonquian saw their lands stolen from them, some of them spat up a terrible curse, calling on the spirit of Wendigo to avenge the loss of their homelands, the death of their people, and the great fires of industry that began to blot out the very stars.

West

The Frog Spirit speaks of the Tree of Codes. The Walking Stick becomes the Tree. The Tree becomes the spear. The spear will bring back the angry dead, to sweep away the evil, so the buffalo and the deer spirit may return.

The Caern of Broken Stones brings one more traveler, another who will not see home, another who will walk the long trail. The Donation Land Act of 1850 offers 320 acres to married couples, and 160 acres to unmarried settlers. The act will expire in just four short years, but during this time there is a massive migration west, leading to conflict between settlers and natives defending their territory against an enemy as numerous as the stars.

The Hudson Bay Company is a new conglomerate forged in 1846 from the former North West Company and the York Express Company, A British monopoly that continues to control the interests of the Oregon Territory, they are a militant missionary force dedicated to the destruction of native holdings and expansionism. Led by John McLaughlin, hailed as the Father of Oregon, the HBC is a dangerous force.

Now, rumors have surfaced of the capture of a detailed map of the western coast from John Fremont and the US Corps of Engineers. If true, this could be signs of a new British offensive in the West. Or is something else pulling at history’s strings? Samuel and Clarence were less than lucky. But the woman with no name woke with instructions from her carriage driver, her paperwork, and enough money to get to Canada.

The River Spey
Fleeing the Fomori

The History of Orkney spans more than 8,800 years. The River Spey is a river in the northeast of Scotland. The second longest and fastest-flowing river, it is important for salmon fishing and whisky production.

Sascha Vykos has delivered the coterie to Skara Brae in time for the Ritual of the Seal. Very little is yet known about this ritual, save that it could allow a Kindred to control the fate of a Black Spiral pack hidden carefully from view since the end of the first War of Rage.

To the Garou, it is a place of great spiritual significance, and the difference between a Black Spiral Den, or the re-emergence of the White Howler. Given his choice, Vykos would see the Spiral bent to his control, taking the heartsblood of the Wyrm’s strength, and at the same time spelling doom for the Camarilla—saving one world to damn another.

The Enemy Within
The Sabbat

The Samedi are believed to be a throwback of the Nosferatu or the Cappadocians, with a unique and frightening flaw. They don’t stop “dying.” Shambling corpses, the Samedi must expend additional blood to preseve their moldering body.

Some, in objection to their new state, insist on wearing the greatest finery money can acquire, while most are resigned to wearing heavy furs or leathers that will resist the blood and ichor forever dripping from their eternal state of decay.

The Samedi are known to have two of the powers of the Nos, Obfuscate and Fortitude. While their bodies are falling apart, their form is held together by preternatural power. Their third power is a stranger mixture of Necromancy and Mortis, called Thanatosis, where it is said they gain the power to pass their rotting curse on to others, or absorb the skin of their victims to keep themselves intact.

Now, they seek the ruin of souls, allied to the force of the Wyrm.
